What is an Ultrasonic Flowmeter? Flow Meter Types and Applications.

An ultrasonic flowmeter is a type of flow meter that uses ultrasonic waves to measure the flow rate of a fluid. This technology works by sending ultrasonic pulses through the fluid and measuring the time it takes for the pulses to travel between two points in the flow stream. By analysing the difference in time between upstream and downstream pulses, the flow rate of the fluid can be calculated. The solution specialist for innovative ultrasonic measurement technologies divided into three independent business units: Non-Invasive Fluid Monitoring and Ultrasonic Transducers.

There are two main types of ultrasonic flow meter types:

1. Transit Time (Time of Flight) and Doppler, are both available in a clamp-on meter style with transducers which are used to detect and then measure flow rates from the outside of the pipework, without any interruption to flow or process.

2. Doppler flow meters work by measuring the frequency shift of reflected ultrasonic waves off of particles or bubbles in the fluid, while transit-time flow meters measure the time it takes for ultrasonic pulses to travel upstream and downstream in the flow stream.

Ultrasonic clamp on(Non-Invasive Fluid Monitoring) flow meters readings are altered by acoustic properties of fluids and impacted by density, viscosity, temperature and suspended particulates, all dependent on the type of flow meter.

Ultrasonic flow meters are commonly used in a variety of applications, including water and wastewater treatment, oil and gas production, chemical processing, and HVAC(BTU) systems. They are known for their non-intrusive installation, high accuracy, and ability to measure a wide range of fluid types. Overall, ultrasonic flow meters are a versatile and reliable option for measuring flow rates in various industries.
