What flow meter is suitable for measuring various types of water flow?

When choosing a flowmeter for measuring water flow, the appropriate type should be determined according to different measurement requirements and the characteristics of the medium. The following is a recommendation for the corresponding flowmeter for measuring different types of water flow.

1. Electroplating wastewater, chemical wastewater - optional (electromagnetic flowmeter)

Electromagnetic flowmeters have a wide range ratio, no moving parts, high accuracy and good stability. They are widely used in many water supply, water trade measurement, circulating water, environmental water treatment sites, etc. For media with complex water conditions such as electroplating wastewater and chemical wastewater, it is more appropriate to use electromagnetic flowmeters.

First of all, electromagnetic flowmeters can use suitable sensor linings and electrode materials. The lining materials and electrode materials are selected according to the corrosiveness, wear resistance and temperature of the measured medium (highly corrosive media can use anti-corrosion electrode materials such as titanium TI, tantalum TA, platinum PT, etc.), and electromagnetic flowmeters have excellent characteristics such as corrosion resistance, anti-interference, and high accuracy. At the same time, it will not cause problems such as wear and blockage, and is also particularly suitable for measuring liquid-solid two-phase fluid slurries such as ore pulp, paper pulp, coal slurry, etc. with solid particles. However, electromagnetic flowmeters cannot measure all liquids. Electromagnetic flowmeters cannot measure liquid media with very low conductivity, such as organic matter such as oil, pure water (deionized water), and lubricating oil.

2. High-purity water, pure water, and sucrose aqueous solution can be measured (turbine flowmeter)

Due to the special internal structure, turbine flowmeters have high requirements for the cleanliness of the medium. Therefore, they are good at measuring pure water, organic liquids, oils, and clean media with low viscosity. The structure of turbine flowmeters is compact and lightweight, easy to install and maintain, and has a large flow capacity. It is also one of the more commonly used flowmeters. On the contrary, it is not recommended to use turbine flowmeters to measure media with high concentration, corrosiveness, high viscosity, and large impurity particles.

3. High-viscosity liquids can be measured (circular gear flowmeter)

Circular gear flowmeters are volumetric flowmeters that can be used to measure small flow, low viscosity, and high viscosity liquids. The new design uses PTFE material to meet the measurement of corrosive liquids, with good corrosion resistance, high repeatability, and high precision. Suitable for measuring the flow of high-viscosity media such as glue, heavy oil, coal tar, resin, yogurt, syrup, and toothpaste. The circular gear flowmeter has a very good reputation among users in recent years, especially in the fine chemical industry.

4. Liquids containing trace bubbles can be selected (Coriolis mass flowmeter)

The measurement accuracy of the Coriolis mass flowmeter is very high and can reach 0.2/0.1 level. The measurement range of fluids is relatively wide, including liquids containing trace gases can meet the measurement; there is no requirement for the installation of upstream and downstream straight pipe sections. In addition, the Coriolis mass flowmeter is also particularly suitable for measuring media with high viscosity. Due to its high accuracy and stability, this type of flowmeter has been widely used in chemical, pharmaceutical, petroleum, energy, food and other industrial fields, and is often used in the transportation department for the measurement of fluid pipeline transportation. If the amount of bubbles on site is relatively large, it is recommended to use a Doppler ultrasonic flowmeter to achieve accurate measurement.

The above are several common media types in the selection. To put it simply,

● Electromagnetic flowmeters are commonly used for tap water, sewage, wastewater, and conductive liquids

● Turbine flowmeters or time-difference ultrasonic flowmeters can be used for lubricating oil, gasoline, diesel, pure water, and clean liquids

● Circular gear flowmeters, oval gear flowmeters, or Coriolis mass flowmeters can be used for high-viscosity media such as syrup, resin, and glue

● Coriolis mass flowmeters or Doppler ultrasonic flowmeters can be used for liquids containing bubbles.

Of course, the water parameters are only one of the necessary conditions for selection. Only after all the parameters such as pipe diameter, working temperature, working pressure, and flow range are clear can the selection be correct and reasonable, ensuring that the flowmeter can ensure stability and high accuracy after it is put into use.
