What should I do if the flow meter is disturbed at the site of use?

In the fast-paced world of industrial production, flow meters serve as the backbone for accurate and reliable metering. However, like any sophisticated instrument, they are vulnerable to various environmental interference that can markedly impact their accuracy and stability. Addressing these challenges requires a multi-faceted approach:

1. Protection Against Electromagnetic Interference

  • Low-frequency Electromagnetic Interference: Originating from power supplies like 220V, 50HZ AC, standard wiring practices that separate AC power lines from signal lines can significantly mitigate interference. Special attention should be paid to prevent crossing of cables in trays or protective tubes.
  • High-frequency Electromagnetic Interference: To minimize interference, flowmeter signal lines should not run parallel to high-power cables (e.g., 380V, 220V). Employing shielded wires can be a prudent measure.
  • Effective Grounding: Proper grounding of the flowmeter and associated wiring can further diminish interference, ensuring stable operation.

2. Inspection and Elimination of Signal Interference

  • Electrodes and Lining: Periodically, it’s crucial to inspect the condition of the flowmeter's electrodes and lining for wear or damage, especially in small-diameter devices. This includes cleaning any surface stains and measuring electrode insulation resistance.
  • Excitation Coil: The insulation resistance of the excitation coil warrants scrutiny to head off interference from moisture ingress or terminal issues.

3. Consideration of On-site Environmental Factors

Adjustments to the environmental setup, such as optimized wiring practices and strategic cable routing, can alleviate both low- and high-frequency electromagnetic interferences, complemented by comprehensive grounding strategies.

4. Calibration and Testing

Initial calibration and testing post-installation lay the groundwork for precise measurements. Moreover, instituting a regimen of regular maintenance and calibration is pivotal in preserving the long-term accuracy and reliability of flowmeters.

Implementing these strategies can substantially enhance the performance of flowmeters in demanding industrial environments, ensuring that they continue to provide the high degree of accuracy and reliability that modern industrial applications require.
